Windows – Backup the Registry

No matter what version of windows you have, it is a good idea to back up the registry. It can save so many headaches!

To back up the registry:

Use Windows Key +R to open a run dialog.

Type regedit then press return.

The registry box will then pop up. Choose “My Computer” in the top of the left pane window, then go to “file” and “export”.

Choose a name and save it somewhere, preferably a re-writable DVD disk or a USB flash drive.

Note:

A reminder: The resulting file will be very large so make sure you have enough space to store it all. For some, an external drive might be a good choice – or a NAS – for multiple reasons.
