For those of you who like social networking, Facebook (originally intended for College kids) is a much milder, stripped down Social Networking as compared to Yahoo 360 and MySpace. Although there are 3rd party Applications you can add… it has a much cleaner / less cluttered look you can add.

A few days ago, a 3rd party application called “Pets” was released for Facebook. To me, it reminds me of a cross between Tamagotchi and with a hint of World of Warcraft in it. The idea is to start out with a level 0 pet - a bunny (or a colorbit). You can pet it, feed it or poke it from your Facebook profile (as can others) to gain XP and health. (Poke seems to give higher XP than Pet from what I have seen).

I have been using Mozilla’s Firefox for the last few years. I have seen it get better and better too. With the new Release Candidate available for download now, and the Beta about to become available at this week, I thought I would give the newest version a try.

My first reaction.. it seemed a little faster loading up WebPages. My second reaction? It is a LOT faster to load up WebPages.!

Move over IE, you have just been dropped.

My IE has been crashing more and more lately. So, I tried to download the latest IE. Considering my IE freezes up about every time I launch it, that made it sort of hard to download. I finally got it, but when I tried to install IE, I got a message saying that a newer version of IE was already installed and setup would discontinue.

Warchalking is a term that describes the act of walking around with a laptop, picking up locations of wireless access points, and drawing symbols to mark various information about the wireless access points. The term was coined in London of June of 2002 by Matt Jones and a group of friends who used hobo-inspired symbols with chalk to mark various attributes to the wireless access points they encountered. He later posted the symbols on his blog and they became well known. The symbols - seen below each represent different descriptions of these WAPs.

Back in the first article, Wireless Networking - At What Cost? , John Hancock was introduced. He had just bought all of his supplies at Circuit City to set up a wireless network at his home. He bought a new laptop that has a built in B/G network card and a wireless access point. When he got home, he simply set up the access point, went through a simple configuration wizard and was on the network in less than fifteen minutes surfing the internet with his high speed internet cable modem and his new laptop. John did not take any security precautions when he set it up. He did not think he needed any type of security on his network. Because the type of wireless router he bought is also considered a firewall, and because he has a software firewall on his laptop, he did not even consider the need to have any kind of security set up on his network. It was also mentioned in this article what when he received an alert from his software firewall that he did not pay any attention to the alert. He did not notice that it was coming from inside his network, not from the internet.
