China to Run Out of IPV4 IPs in 830 Days

There has been so much talk for so many years about running our of IP addresses. Then it seemed that home networking helped us out by getting us to use private IP addresses for internal networks. Thus, NAT and other ways helped us lengthen the time that we would have before the word ‘ran out’ of IPV4 IP addresses.

Now, it seems that China Tech News is telling us that China is running out of IP addresses and only has 830 days left. If not ‘fixed’ by then, it is first come first server for whoever connects and not everyone will be able to get on the internet.

So, what does that mean for China and websites? What about commerce over the web?

Although MS Vista and Linux have capabilities of using IPV6, not everyone does use it. And, when it comes to websites, the rule of thumb is that IPV4 users cannot ’see’ IPV6 websites. But, IP V6 users can see IPV4 websites.
