Microsoft Outlook - Setting Rules in Outlook to Reduce Spam

Outlook Express allows users to set up rules so that e-mail from specific senders will be automatically deleted. Here’s how to do it:

- Click on Tools in Outlook
- Click Rules Wizard
- Click "new"
- Look in the top box to select which messages are to be subject to the rule
- Click on the first choice "Check messages when they arrive"
- Click "next"
- Box should say "Which conditions do you want to check?"
- Scroll down and check "mail from Junk Senders"
- (Click on the words "Junk Senders" to personalize your list with known offenders)
- Check "Adult Content Senders" (Click on the words "Adult Content Senders" to personalize your list with known offenders)
- Click "next"
- Box should say "What do you want to do?"
- Check "delete it"
- Click "next"
- Choose any exceptions to your rule (if any) by checking appropriate boxes
- Click "next"
- Check "turn on this rule"
- Click "finish"

From now on, whenever an e-mail comes in from that source, you will never see it because it will be deleted.

Another way to limit spam is to create a rule that blocks e-mail messages that have specific words in the subject such as "sexy", "Viagra", "mortgage", or any other popular spam subject. It’s the same process as above, except instead of selecting "Adult Content Senders" or "Junk Senders" you apply your rule to "with specific words in the subject".
