*Update* Nov 21, 2008
The newer version of Microsoft Word had a problem opening these older files and the .doc format was noted as corrupt. I was able to open it in Open Office (A free alternative to MS Office) and resave the files as *.pdf files. The files have been updated on the server and are now available for download again.
Download
This file is now a *.pdf file
Adobe Acrobat to maybe download to view the *.pdf files (A free download)

CompTIA offers a certification for people wanting to certify in Security. This certification tests for security skills and knowledge gained after the equivalency of 2 years on the job training in network with emphasis on the security aspect. This certification covers different topics such as communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, access control, network attacks, authentication and other subjects in the matter of security. It may also be applied toward a MCSA + Security Certification as a core exam. See Microsoft’s website for further details
While studying for this exam, I compiled a list of the notes I had taken. This list does NOT cover all of the exam. It is merely a brief cliff notes version to highlight some of the material. I have posted it on this website for others to download. It is available free to anyone. There are no guarantees with this cheat sheet I have made. I originally made it just to remind me of a few things for a quick study before taking the exam. Please do not rely solely on this for studying.

geekette, this cheat sheet is very useful for studying the Security+. I recommend it to everyone I know who is taking the exam and several people have come up to me raving about the Security+ cheat sheet after they took the test.

This is an excellent resource for people looking at taking the Security+ exam. I really like most of the CompTIA certifications. It is also good that you explained that such tips should not be the only source for exam preparation. Nice blog, and keep up the good work.

This cheat sheet is a great idea, thank you! I cannot figure out how to open it, so I must be a dork. Guess I need to upgrade from Office 95. Thanks anyway!

I actually took my Security+ today and missed it by a few points. So I am back to studying, I tried to download your study guide, but it says it is corrupted. Any chance of uploading it again?
Thanks

@John
I will be working on that. For some reason, In MS Word 2007 and Vista, I am getting the same message, but from other computers it opens fine. I am not sure what the problem is, but I will be working on that and will send you a copy that does not give me that message.

Can you send me a copy too? Perhaps exporting/saving it as a PDF would help?
Thanks!

@Will sure thing. The strange thing is, I can DL and open it in linux and Open Office.. so I am not sure what is going on. I will check into it and get a copy and send one. Might be Sunday, but I will get to it!

@Martin yes, unfortunately it is. I have spent hours looking for a backup that isn’t, and I will continue to look today. I do have an idea of where one might be on a disk, I am looking for the disk now actually. I hope to have a good copy by the end of the day for this one and another one. I do apologize greatly! I will make an announcement about it soon and email you and some others as well

Hi, Hey I wasn’t sure that you checked the site. I would like to have what you put together for the security+ I was thinking of doing it myself but wanted to see what you had.
Thanks
Marty

Thanks for this! The Cheat Sheet is great. I already passed the exam. But I recommend your Cheat Sheet to everyone! But the link to the Security + Cheat Sheet on the page below doesn’t appear to be working:
http://www.girlgeekette.net/security/comp-tias-securitycheet-sheet/
Seems the link should point to a PDF file. But it points instead to another page in your site (or at least something without a .pdf extension).

Thanks very much Alan! I will look into it. I had just re-uploaded everything and changed the format. Good catch, and I appreciate the comment about it too
Kudos Alan, it should be fixed now!
